Living together - joint tenants or tenants in common?

People buying a property together can choose one of two ways to share it. This mainly affects what happens to the home if one of you dies.

Joint tenants – if one co-buyer dies, their share of the property automatically passes to the surviving buyer.

Tenants in common – what happens to each buyer’s share of the property is set out in their will.

As part of the conveyancing process, brains solicitors will explain both kinds of tenancy, and help you discuss which is best for your needs.
